President Muizzu concludes historical visit to China

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, on Friday night, concluded the leader’s first state visit since assuming office undertaken to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

As part of the visit, President Muizzu and President Xi led the official talks between the Maldivian and the Chinese governments respectively, followed by the signing of twenty key agreements between the two governments. 

They included one on the development of 30,000 housing units in Rasmale’ by China, grant assistance for a 100-bed tertiary hospital to be developed in Vilimale’ and allowing Maldives’ national airline, Maldivian, to undertake domestic operations within China as part of a free trade agreement.

The Maldivian first couple also had several engagements and visited various establishments, fostering greater cultural, economic, and political relations with China.

In one of his most prominent engagements, President Muizzu attended the Invest Maldives Forum. While speaking at the forum, he laid out his government's vision for developing the Maldives as one of engagement, partnership building, and focused delivery. He also emphasized the importance of his visit to China, as it is his first state visit to a foreign nation, stating that China remains one of the Maldives's closest allies and developmental partners.

The first couple also took time off their schedule to meet and engage with the local community residing in Beijing.

A high-level delegation of the Maldivian government accompanied the first couple during this visit.
