Pres: Must become individuals who thwart any discord that could harm our country and people

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appealed to all Maldivian citizens to uphold the principle of 'Nation First' and ensure that the spirit and values of Maldivian nationalism remain firmly rooted in the hearts of every citizen.

In a message shared on social media to mark National Day, the President reflected that as the dawn of the occasion breaks, the collective memory of the Maldivian people travels back 467 years into the past.

Recalling the historic liberation of the Maldives, the President described it as a journey marked by the 'triumphant and invaluable struggle of the courageous heroes who liberated this archipelago from the colonial shackles and atrocities of the Portuguese, then notoriously known as the Sea Falcons.'

Emphasizing the lessons that history offers, the President stated that each period in which the Maldives came under foreign influence revealed a recurring reality: the betrayal of individuals driven by self-interest who harbored no goodwill toward the nation was at the root of such circumstances.

“Today, we must firmly renew our resolve to ensure that such bitter experiences are never repeated,” he emphasized.

“Let us stand as guardians of our nation’s sovereignty, independence, and identity, and be those who thwart any discord that could harm our country and its people,” he added.

Extending his greetings to the Maldivian people on the proud occasion of National Day, President Muizzu reiterated his call to place the nation above all else and preserve the essence of the country’s national identity.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed had attended the official flag-hoisting ceremony held earlier this morning to commemorate National Day.
