President reaffirms commitment to youth empowerment

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where every young Maldivian can realize their full potential, in a message on occasion of International Youth Day.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”, President Muizzu said that while young people across islands, communities and cultures may experience different realities, they share common aspirations: access to quality education, meaningful opportunities, a life of dignity, and a better future for themselves and their families.

Highlighting that young people make up nearly 45 percent of the Maldives population, President Muizzu underscored their central role in shaping the future of the Maldives.

He commended their determination and achievements across faith, education, science and sports, describing these accomplishments as evidence of a generation that continues to excel.

President Muizzu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that educational achievement is matched by opportunities in the workforce, highlighting on nationwide initiatives to expand higher education and vocational training across the atolls.

He referenced initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Program and the National Service Program, which he said were designed to strengthen the transition from education to employment.

Reaffirming his confidence in the country’s youth, the President emphasized that their ideas, voices and ambitions are of significant value to national development.

He thanked young Maldivians for their energy and resilience, expressing confidence that their dedication will help guide the nation towards lasting prosperity, resilience, and sustainable development.

President Muizzu also praised young Maldivians as a driving force behind national progress, in a post on his X account.

He emphasized that their energy, resilience, and determination remain vital to shaping strong communities, expressing firm confidence that the rising generation will lead the country toward a secure and prosperous future.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also echoed similar sentiments in her X post for International Youth Day, emphasizing that every young person’s dreams are equally valuable, regardless of their background or the island they call home.

She called for equal opportunities for all young people to thrive, urging a collective commitment to building a Maldives where circumstances never limit their potential to dream big and achieve their aspirations.

International Youth Day is observed annually on August 12 to raise awareness of issues affecting young people and celebrate their potential as partners in global development.
