Male’ completely flooded as heavy rain batters the nation

Male’ City was completely flooded as heavy rain battered the Maldivian nation on Sunday morning.

Since dawn, Male’ City, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ has experienced uninterrupted heavy rain.

Major roads in Male’ City – Ameenee Magu, Boduthakurufaanu Magu and Majeedhee Magu – were heavily flooded as a result. Some reports of floods entering homes have been noted.

Alongside Male’, Hulhumale’ roads and the highway have also been flooded.

Dozens of homes in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City have been damaged in the ongoing bad weather spell.

Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) has attributed the bad weather spell to a low-pressure area formed over the Arabian Sea. The office has issued a nationwide white alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms till 1:30pm this afternoon.

In light of the weather conditions, the music show and the fireworks slated for tonight have been postponed
