Chairperson of main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla, citing the party presently has a membership of over 40,000, states the party will become one of the political parties with the highest number of members by the end of the year.
Speaking at an event on Thursday night, Abdul Raheem said PNC presently has over 40,000 registered members. He attributed the increase in membership to acceptance of the government elected by the public during this year’s presidential election.
“This is the record. A record is not something done through an interview given,” Abdul Raheem said, describing records are achieved through physical work.
He stressed that Maldivian citizens remained firm in their aim to establish a ‘Dhiveheenge Raajje’, which translates to Maldivians’ Maldives.
Abdul Raheem, noting the public delegated this work to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. expressed he would undertake all efforts to defend the government and cooperate with the president.
“It is not mandatory for those in charge of things yesterday to remain in charge today. It is not mandatory to do things today as done yesterday,” he added.
Abdul Raheem said PNC’s ideology is a nationalistic ideology. Emphasizing that there will be no leeway for violence, he said the party will always prioritize peace. He further said the party will be responding to opponents’ words through action.
At Thursday night’s event, 13 formerly MDP MPs signed to PNC.
