Man who stabbed his mother suffers from mental illness

Police report that the man who stabbed his mother inside a flat in Hulhumale’ Phase I on Monday evening suffers from mental illness.

The stabbing was reported to the police at around 06:50 pm Monday. It left a 51-year-old woman in serious condition.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is the victim’s son, and that the woman was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in a domestic dispute.

The police later added that the suspect suffers from mental illness, and that they are working on taking him to a psychiatrist.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
