Foreign Ministry has instructed political appointees at Maldivian embassies in foreign nations to return to the Maldives before November 18th.

Communications Director at Foreign Ministry Safaath Ahmed Zahir told Sun that President Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has requested some individuals in diplomatic posts outside of the Maldives to return to Maldives before November 18th.

In line with this, Safaath said 61 individuals have been instructed to return to Maldives before the said date.

During the campaign for the presidential election, opposition PPM-PNC coalition to which Muizzu belongs had expressed concern over families and close acquaintances of senior government officials being employed at Maldivian embassies abroad at huge expenses from the state budget.

Preparations are underway for Muizzu to take oath at the time of his request for political appointees abroad to return to the Maldives.

Muizzu, who won September’s presidential election, will take oath at 4:45pm next Friday, in a ceremony slated to take place at the Republic’s Square. The parliament’s secretariate is undertaking the preparations for the ceremony.

Leaders of neighboring foreign nations have been extended invitations to attend the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Muizzu is undertaking efforts to form his cabinet.
