Minister Iruthisham calls to respond decisively to the Palestinian cause

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has called on member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to respond decisively to the Palestinian cause, reflecting on the shared commitment between Member States to uphold the values of the Muslim Ummah. 

The Minister made the remarks on Thursday during an Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The meeting marked Minister Iruthisham’s first participation in an OIC session since assuming office. In her address, she strongly condemned Israel’s continued illegal occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories. She also expressed deep concern over the lack of meaningful action to hold Israel accountable for its violations of International Law. 

Emphasizing the collective responsibility of OIC member states to uphold the principles of the Islamic Ummah, Minister Iruthisham reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering commitment to advancing justice and protecting the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. She reiterated the Maldives’ support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. She also called for the implementation of a comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza as a crucial step toward achieving lasting peace.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Iruthisham held discussions with foreign ministers from several OIC member states, underscoring the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the organization. With 57 member states, the OIC remains a key international body advocating for Palestinian rights. The Maldives has been a member of the organization since 1976 and continues to maintain an active and prominent role within the group.
