Three Maldivians who were arrested for prostitution at a clinic in Male’ City specialized in Dhivehi medicine have been remanded in police custody.
Two women, aged 35 and 44, and a man, aged 41, were on Wednesday night for prostitution during an operation carried out based on a tip received by police intelligence.
The 35-year-old woman, who has a prior criminal record, was remanded in police custody for 10 days by the Criminal Court on Thursday.
The 44-year-old woman was remanded in custody for five days. Criminal Court cited the reasoning behind the shorter remand period as she had expressed her wish to discuss how the police had acted during her arrest with her lawyers.
Meanwhile, the man was also remanded in custody for 10 days.
Police, in an earlier statement, said they were investigating the case further.
Previous cases of massage parlors and saloons being used as a front for prostitution have come to light in the Maldives.
