Mohamed Ibrahim Didi, long-serving govt. employee, dies at 86

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi (Thubbeege Muhanmaidhi), who served the government over a long period of time, has passed away early Friday morning.

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi passed away in Addu City’s Hithadhoo at the age of 86. He is the father of Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi and State Electric Company Limited (STELCO)’s Chairman, Brigadier General (Retired) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi.

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi, born in Hithadhoo, assumed the post of the district’s deputy island chief in 1964, following which he undertook various efforts for the development of the district.

In this trajectory, he oversaw government-initiated projects in Hithadhoo with respect to infrastructure, economy and education. He later became the island chief during which he played an integral role in the development of Seenu Atoll Education in Hithadhoo.

He also served as the secretary to Addu Atoll chief. He later assumed the post himself.

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi tendered his resignation after serving in the government for over 43 years. In 2021, he was honored with the National Award for Public Service. 

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi’s funeral will be held after Friday prayers at Masjid al-Ikram at Hithadhoo.
