Police search for fifth suspect in gang attack on sergeant

Police are looking for an additional suspect wanted in connection to the assault of a police officer in Hulhumale’ last month.

The incident, which took place on May 21, injured a sergeant from the Galolhu Police Station, who received treatment from a hospital.

Police have made four arrests in connection to the case; a 21-year-old male, a 33-year-old male, two 42-year-old males, and a 44-year-old male.

Police made a public announcement seeking help to find a fifth suspect on Wednesday.

According to police, Mohamed Ansaam Ibrahim, 23, Beyrefeeshi, Dhadimagu, Fuvahmulah City, is also wanted in a drug case.

Police have asked for anyone with information regarding Ansam’s whereabouts to call the Hulhumale’ Police at 3035335 or the police hotline at 3322111.

According to the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, the attack on the sergeant was carried out by a known criminal gang.
