Six youths arrested with knives over alleged attempt to commit assault

A group of six young men were arrested from Male’ City on Thursday, on allegations possession of knives and conspiracy to commit assault.

The six were arrested in an operation conducted by the police on suspicion of a conspiracy to commit assault in Male’ and Hulhumale’ with the use of sharp-edged weapons.

The police raided a guesthouse located in Raiveri Hingun and the surrounding area, and found two folding pocket knives and MVR 39,695 in cash on them.

The six arrested in the case are Maldivian males aged 21, 23, 32 and 34, and two aged 30.

They were taken to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Friday.

Two of the suspects, aged 23 and 30, were granted conditional release citing weak evidence linking them to the suspected crime.

Meanwhile, the other five were all remanded in police custody for 15 days.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
