Four Pakistanis arrested for smuggling drugs into Maldives

Maldivian authorities have arrested four Pakistani nationals for smuggling drugs into Maldives.

The suspects, identified as three men and one woman, were caught smuggling drugs into Maldives by ingesting it.

The Criminal Court extended their remand by five days on Tuesday.

Court documents show the four suspects arrived in Maldives on a flight. Their behavior arose the suspicion of immigration officers, who conducted a body search.

All four were taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial (IGMH), where scans showed they had foreign objects in their bodies. They are detained at the medical clinic at Dhoonidhoo Custodial until they passed the drugs.

The Criminal Court has instructed the police to have them reappear before the court for a review of their remand within 24 hours after they are discharged from the clinic.
