Parliament rejects Nasheed faction’s resolutions accusing govt of failure to fulfil pledges

The Parliament on Tuesday rejected two resolutions submitted by MPs loyal to Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, accusing the government of failure to fulfil the pledges on Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s 2018 manifesto.

The two resolutions were submitted over the over the electoral pledges made by MDP on fisheries and agriculture during the campaign for the 2018 presidential election.

The resolution submitted by Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan, calling for the restoration of the subsidy to farmers provided during the first MDP administration, was the first to be put to vote.

Only seven out of 49 MPs in attendance voted in favor of the resolution, while the remaining 42 MPs voted to reject it.

Next was the resolution submitted by Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan, calling for the implementation of the fisheries policies on MDP’s manifesto.

Again, only seven MPs voted in favor of the resolution, while 41 MPs voted to reject it.

MPs from Nasheed’s faction have submitted multiple resolutions to the Parliament urging the government to fulfill its pledges in recent weeks.
