Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has filed a case with the Civil Court after the party was instructed to vacate its main party center, the MDP Haruge, located near the Henveiru Artificial Beach.
MDP’s spokesperson Anas Abdul Sattar told Sun that the main ruling party also asked for an injunction to suspend the eviction notice.
A hearing in the case is scheduled for 10:30 am Monday.
The party received notice from the landowner to vacate the premises last April.
The party said back then that they were looking for a new building to relocate.
The iconic MDP Haruge is located on land owned by Shafiyya Zubair, one of the party’s top activists.
MDP has appeared increasingly divided in recent months, with members divided between two factions – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s faction and the faction loyal to the party’s leader Mohamed Nasheed.
Shafiyya is a member of Nasheed’s ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’ movement.
