Applications open for MNU with 3 new courses

Maldives National University has opened applications for the August intake with three new courses.

A total of 93 courses have been announced to start in August this year.

The newly introduced courses so far this year are Bachelor of Engineering and Electronics, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and Master of Science in Geo-Special Technology for Disaster Management. A total of 5,400 places are available for all 95 courses.

Application forms for the courses will be accepted starting this Sunday till July 25.

After announcing the new courses, the Vice Chancellor of MNU, Dr Mohamed Shareef said that 3 more courses have been sent for MQA approval. If approved, the opportunity to apply for the courses will be opened as soon as possible, he said.

The courses currently sent for approval by MQA are Bachelor of Arts in Media and Public Relations, Bachelor of Science in Climate Change and Professional Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership.

“Moreover, the Professional Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership is a program geared towards professionals working in middle management of the tourism sector. The purpose of the program is to create people for the next level if not that then upcoming leadership roles in the resorts,” Dr Shareef said.

In addition, the courses to be started in different atolls include IT courses to be started in Fuvahmulah and professional certificate courses will be conducted in the island as well.

Dr Shareef further said that the most popular courses are nursing and medicine. He also highlighted the fact that the number of students applying for teaching is low.
