Drugs worth MVR 3 million concealed in cosmetics seized

Maldives Customs have seized 1.8-kilo drugs attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives via courier.

The drugs were seized during a further search of cosmetics brought to the Maldives from the United Kingdom via courier on March 29th and March 31st; a search which was prompted by an indication of suspicious substances concealed within the cosmetics.

In this regard, Customs detailed six containers from two packages searched on March 29th and four containers from one package searched on March 31st held substances believed to be drugs. They added that the substances tested positive for mephedrone, a drug, during the first phase of testing.

The drugs in total, as per customers, weighed 1,800 grams while its street value is placed at MVR 3, 240,000. 

The seized drugs have now been handed over to Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
