A domestic flight operated by the national airline, Maldivian, was forced to return to the Velana International Airport (VIA) on Sunday morning, after it detected a technical issue shortly after takeoff.

The technical issue was detected shortly after the flight departed for L. Kadhdhoo, forcing the flight to return to VIA.

Maldivian’s spokesperson told Sun that the airline’s engineers detected no major issues with the plane.

However, the engineers are conducting a full checkup of the plane.

The flight has been rescheduled to around 01:00 pm.

“The engineers are conducting a checkup now. We expect it to be done by 01:00 pm. We expect the flight can depart by then,” said the spokesperson.

Maldivian, which previously solely used Dash aircrafts, recently added two ATR-72 aircrafts to its fleet.
