Gulf Craft Maldives has been awarded an MVR 31 million contract by the Health Ministry to procure 13 speedboats.

The contract was signed by State Minister for Health Ahmed Adil and Gulf Craft Maldives’ General Manager, Production, Costas Eliopoulos on Wednesday.

According to Adil, the speedboats will be used to transfer laboratory samples, conduct outreach programs, and to transfer patients in emergency cases.

While the terms of the contract require Gulf Craft Maldives to supply the speedboats within one year, Adil said the company plans of supplying it in five months.

“Gulf Craft assures us they will supply the speedboats within the next five months. If that’s the case, the service will be provided to the people in five months. This will offer great relief to the people,” said Adil.

The contract was signed under the Maldives Covid-19 Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project – funded by the World Bank and Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Speedboats are already being used in islands as sea ambulances.
