President: Japan is one of Maldives’ most reliable development partners

Japan has proven to be one of Maldives’ most steadfast and reliable development partners, states Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

He made the remark in messages to Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Monday, delivering greetings on the 55th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between Maldives and Japan.

In his message to Emperor Naruhito, President Solih said that Japan has made immense contributions to the social and economic progress of Maldives over the past decades, affecting significant transformation to the upskilling of the Maldivian workforce, as well as the health and wellbeing of Maldivian communities and their empowerment.

Japan has proven to be one of Maldives’ most steadfast and reliable development partners, he said.

He said Maldives was committed to further strengthen Maldives-Japan ties.

In a separate message to PM Kishida, President Solih said that Maldives-Japan relations have flourished over the decades due to the common commitment to democracy, peace, and human rights, and ensuring that the benefits of development are felt by all segments of society.

The high-level bilateral cooperation between the two countries is supported by people-to-people contact, he said.

He said Maldives looked forward to continuing to work with Japan to explore more mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
