Japan donates MVR 4M worth of equipment to NDMA

The Government of Japan has donated USD 4.3 million worth of equipment to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of the Maldives.

The donation was formally handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko, during a ceremony held Sunday. NDMA’s chief executive officer Hisaan Hassan received the donation on behalf of the authority.

According to the NDMA, the assistance was provided under Japan’s Economic and Social Development Program.

The authority noted that this contribution will substantially enhance firefighting and water drainage capabilities, while also strengthening disaster response services across multiple islands.

The donated equipment includes fire pumps, water drainage pumps, and other specialized tools intended for disaster relief and emergency response operations. The total value of the contribution, amounting to USD 4.3 million, is approximately equivalent to MVR 66 million.
