Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) issued a statement on Thursday denying the procurement of minibuses involved corruption.

The statement comes after local news outlet Dhiyares made the accusation in an article last week.

In the statement, MTCC said that it was one of the companies that implements the government strategies to make positive changes to the life of the Maldivian people.

MTCC said it was receiving huge support from the public for the minibus service it launched in Male’ this week under the Raajje Transport Link (RTL).

The company accused Dhiyares of publishing the article with the deliberate intention of defaming them and misleading the public.

MTCC described the article as “blatantly false”.

MTCC accused Dhiyares of deliberate attempt to shatter the trust and love the public had in and for the company, and the company’s infrastructure development projects and public transport services.

“Coming at an age of the development of transparent press in Maldives, this was an uncivilized act by Dhiyares to distort the truth. We are sad to note the purpose of this was to prioritize personal interests and gain a political advantage. We take this opportunity to note that though a few may engage in such acts, media outlets are also engaged in responsible journalism,” said MTCC.

Concluding the statement, MTCC urged Dhiyares against engaging in such acts. MTCC also thanked the government, shareholders, customers, and all business partners for their continued faith in the company.
