Police have issued a statement denying any influence over the investigation into the leaked videos of men engaging in homosexual acts.

The statement on Thursday follows allegations police was being pressured into deliberately overlooking cases involving some influential figures.

“No party has exerted influence to redirect the police investigation in this case or make a particular decision in the case against a specific individual,” said the police.

Police said that after the nude videos leaked over social media, some individuals had posted fake images.

Police said they conducted forensic analysis of all videos and images to verify their authenticity.

“We note that it takes a lot of time to conduct forensic analysis to meet the standards required under the criminal justice system. We are implementing investigative procedures against the individuals in video evidence confirmed through forensic analysis so far,” said the police.

Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection to the case; identified only as a 45-year-old Maldivian male, a 35-year-old Maldivian male, and a 46-year-old Maldivian male.
