North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahumy has broken silence for the first time after his loss to Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail in Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Chairperson election.

Via a tweet this evening, Inthi congratulated his opponent, Fayyaz, for winning the election.

He also thanked all members who voted and campaigned for him in the election.

Inthi also expressed his intention to stand by the party in the future in accordance with the policies and practices maintained as of present.

Fayyaz won MDP’s Chairperson election by a landslide on Saturday. In this regard, Fayyaz had secured 58 percent of the votes whilst Inthi only secured 42 percent of the votes.

The election, was believed by many, to be a face-off between the two leaders of MDP; President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed. In this regard, Fayyaz was backed by supporters of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his policies while Inthi was backed by supporters of Nasheed and his policies.
