Andhun Hussain defeats Ilyas MDP PG Deputy Leader seat

South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem (Andhun Hussain) has defeated Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb in tiebreaker voting round for the candidates that tied for the post of Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Parliamentary Group’s 2nd Deputy Leader.

Initial voting to elect two Deputy Leaders of the Parliamentary Group was held on Friday, February 18, during which the most votes, being 49, were secured by Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain (Big-A), successfully securing one chair.

Andhun Hussain and Ilyas were tied by 34 votes, leading for today’s tiebreaker round of voting.

In this round, a total of 63 individuals had voted from which Andhun Hussain secured 38 votes and Ilyas secured 25 votes.

In a voting also held on February 18 to elect a Parliamentary Group Leader, North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam secured the post with 40 votes. Current Parliamentary Group Leader, Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim who contested for the post alongside him secured 25 votes.
