Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)’s Managing Director Adam Azim has announced the company was preparing to commence direct buses between Male’ City and Hulhumale’ Phase II in March.

In a tweet on Thursday afternoon, Azim said the new route will be launched on March 2.

Azim said that MTCC will have buses every one hour if the traffic isn’t bad, and plan to increase the frequency to 15 minutes before the end of July.

“The buses will be conducted every one hour the traffic isn’t too bad, and we will have buses every 15 minutes before the end of July 2022,” he said.

Commuters from the newly populated Hulhumale’ Phase II currently need to take a bus to Phase I, and a second bus to Male’ City.

Azim previously stated that the MTCC had been getting delayed in launching direct buses between Male’ and Hulhumale’ Phase II due to shortage in buses. He said then that the company expected to launch the route in September.

A direct bus service offers a relief to the hundreds of people now living in Hulhumale’ Phase II, many of whom commute to Male’ City for work and other purposes.
