MDP opens candidacy for chairperson, other top posts

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened candidacy for the position of the party’s chairperson, along with positions within the Women’s Wing and Youth Wing. 

The main ruling party opened candidacy for the positions on Saturday. 

The positions open for candidacy are: 

• Chairperson 

• President of Youth Wing 

• Vice President of Youth Wing 

• President of Women’s Wing 

• Vice President of Women’s Wing 

Interested candidates have been instructed to email the candidacy form along with other relevant documents to [email protected]. 

The deadline for candidacy is 04:00 pm on Saturday, February 19. 

The position of MDP chairperson became vacant after the term of the last chairperson, West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef expired earlier this week. 

Hassan Latheef was election chairperson of MDP on February 10, 2017. 

MDP’s constitution dictates that candidacy must be opened minimum 60 days ahead of elections. 

The elections are scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 16.
