Over one lakh stolen from a motorcycle

Maldives Police Service has commenced investigation into a case of over one lakh stolen from the under-seat of a motorcycle parked in Male’ City.

Reportedly, the money was stolen on Monday morning at about 09:40, close to the Buruzumagu-Kashimaahingun junction. The owner of the motorbike, parked it to go inside a nearby dental clinic. By the time he came out, the money was stolen.

A friend of the bike owner spoke to ‘Sun’ revealing that the stolen money amounts to MVR 130,000. The person also added that the owner works for a well-known businessman.

In addition to this, ‘Sun’ was able to obtain the CCTV footage. In the footage, a man wearing a brown shirt was seen sitting on the bike. After sitting for a while, he opens the under-seat, empties the money into a bag and walks away. Notably, he was not wearing a mask.

Police have obtained this footage for investigation but have yet to make an official statement on this.

 

Stealing money and other valuables from the under-seat of motorbikes are a common occurrence. Hence, the Police has on multiple occasions urged not to leave valuables in the under-seat of bikes.
