President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to visit Sh. Komandoo in the upcoming weekend to launch the MDP candidate Mohamed Rashid’s campaign for the Komandoo parliamentary by-elections.

Rashid is scheduled to launch his campaign in an event in Komandoo on Friday, January 7.

MDP confirms the President will attend the event.

Prior to applying for the by-elections, Rashid had served as Secretary-General of Sh. Foakaidhoo Council. He had also served as President of Foakaidhoo Council over the past three terms.

He will run in the by-elections against the PPM candidate- former Deputy Home Minister Moosa Fathuhy Adam and MNP candidate Abdul Hannan Idrees.

The Komandoo parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14. He died at the age of 53 years in a hospital in Male’ City after a year-long battle with cancer.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on February 5.
