Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Friday, affirmed that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will always remain steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights of workers.

In a post on X to mark International Workers' Day (Labor Day), the former president emphasized that safeguarding employees’ rights and ensuring dignified living standards remain central objectives of the party.

Solih noted that during the MDP’s tenure, key labor reforms were implemented, including the country’s first-ever minimum wage, the introduction of six months of paid maternity leave, and the legal guarantee of service charges for workers in the tourism sector.

He further assured that the party would continue its efforts to promote safe working environments and strengthen the overall welfare of the workforce.

“I assure thar we will always remain committed to our efforts to ensure the professional environment is psychologically healthy and safe, and uphold the rights of all workers,” Solih said.

His remarks come as MDP increasingly voices criticism of the current administration’s policies, while also organizing a series of protests in Malé, including a recent large-scale demonstration against the government.
