Police have arrested a man who attempted to hang clothes to dry on a fan inside a mosque in Male’ City.

Ibrahim Ahmed, 39, was arrested from the mosque on Friday.

According to police, he was arrested for acting in contempt of mosques.

He admitted to attempting to hang his clothes to dry on the fan when presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing after his arrest.

The court ordered him to be remanded in custody of the police for seven days, citing that contempt of mosques was of public concern.

The case comes after a man was arrested for urinating inside two mosques in Male’ City in October. The same man was re-arrested in November, for spitting on a copy of the Holy Quran inside a mosque.
