Copy Rasheed dies at age 72

Mohamed Rasheed, MA. Copyge, (Copy Rasheed) who has long served in the field of Dhivehi language and literature has passed away.

Sun has been informed that he had passed away while undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital, following a stroke, at the age of 72.

Copy Rasheed who joined the field of Dhivehi language and literature at the age of 18 had received National Award of Honor conferred by the President in 2020 – for his contributions in the field.

Copy Rasheed is particularly noted for his contributions in the field of poetry. In 2005, he was conferred the National Award of Recognition by the President – in writing poetry.

He also worked in the field of journalism for a long period of time – and was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by Maldives Media Council in the Journalism Awards 2018.

In addition to this – Copy Rasheed had also worked in the field of education, as a Dhivehi language teacher. He taught at many schools in Male’ City.

He is also renowned for writing in Dhivehi and Arabic – specializing in writing in large fonts. On this note – he had conducted many training courses on writing in large fonts. He was also conferred the National Award of Recognition by the President in 1988 – in writing in Dhivehi and Arabic.

Copy Rasheed also served as a civil servant for over 32 years. Some of the posts he held during this time include Atoll head of B. Atoll; Assistant to the Director and Assistant Director at Dhivehi Language and Heritage Academy; Deputy Director at Publishing Department of Education Ministry; Director at Education Ministry; Assistant Director General and Deputy Director at Judicial Service Commission.
