Racing community mourns Alikko’s death who died two days into cancer treatment abroad

Ali Shahumee (Alikko).

The familiar face, often seen smiling amid the excitement and passion of racing, is no longer among us. Ali Shahumee (Alikko), a cherished and respected member of the Maldivian racing community, passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment for cancer.

His unexpected passing has left the entire racing community overwhelmed with deep and irreplaceable sorrow. His funeral rites were completed earlier today.

For Alikko’s close friends, his sudden departure remains difficult to come to terms with. It was only a week ago that it was discovered he had been diagnosed with cancer. Just two days after traveling to India for further medical treatment, he passed away, leaving his family and friends heartbroken.

The words shared by a close friend with Sun reflect Alikko’s warm-hearted character and the impact he had on those around him.

"Alikko was a very cheerful friend who got along with everyone and maintained close bonds. Especially after joining our team, our relationship grew so strong that he became an inseparable friend," his friend recalled.

The friend further described Alikko as a hardworking and supportive individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. This, he said, was one of the main reasons behind Alikko’s widespread popularity within the racing community.

Although Alikko is no longer with us, the memories and legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on.

"The memories of Alikko are ones that will remain with us forever," his friends said.

Alikko leaves behind a grieving family and a racing community where his trademark smile has been replaced by cherished memories, deep affection, and sorrow among those who had the privilege of knowing him.
