Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced it will resume doorstep waste collection services this September.

In a press conference on Tuesday morning, WAMCO’s Managing Director Adam Mohamed announced the corporation will resume doorstep waste collection services on September 15.

WAMCO had suspended doorstep waste collection services and asked customers to put out waste bags on the ground floor of buildings or out in the street as a precautionary measure due to the COVID-10 pandemic last year.

Speaking at Tuesday’s press conference Adam Mohamed noted that had been collecting waste without distinguishing between registered and non-registered households, but will resume collecting waste from just registered customers starting September 15.

He asked all households which wish to receive waste collection services to register with WAMCO.

Adam Mohamed said that registered customers who have outstanding bills will receive services if they clear the bills for the months prior to the last three months.

Starting this Tuesday, new registration must be made in the name of building owners. However, registration applications can be submitted as separate apartments.

WAMCO will not collect heavy and bulky waste from households. Each household can put out waste in three (40 liter) dustbin bags that meet the standard or a black (120 liter) dustbin bag.

WAMCO has asked that households make arrangements for easy waste collection as it will take time for workers to collect waste from each floor.

The corporation has also announced that cards issued to permit customers to drop off waste directly to the waste collection site can no longer be used starting September 15.

Waste collection services will be provided between 18:00-23:00 hours in Male’ City, and between 20:00-23:00 hours in Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’.

WAMCO has requested households not to put waste out in the street once it resumes doorstep collection services.
