Islamic Ministry has confirmed that congregational prayers will resume in Male’ area with social distancing starting from the next Fajr prayer.

The Ministry noted that mosques are being reopened for congregational prayers as part of new easements in COVID-19 restrictions, which will kick-in on Thursday, July 1.

The Ministry has advised worshippers to adhere to guidelines set by them and other government authorities when going for congregational prayers to ensure your safety, including maintaining social distancing within rows, wearing a mask, and taking personal prayer mats.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Male’ area saw a major increase during April and May. Subsequently, the Ministry had announced the closure of mosques on May 26. Later on, some mosques were opened for persons to pray individually.

With a significant plummet of cases being observed within the last two weeks, the government has decided to ease many of the restrictions that are currently in place.
