4 arrested from Male’ for possession of alcohol

Maldives Police Service has made four arrests, and seized a large quantity of alcohol in two operations run by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) in collaboration with Police Intelligence in Male’ City.

The police seized 511 beer cans and 116 liquor bottles in the operations.

The first operation took place on Sunday, September 13. The police arrested three people who were unloading items from a pickup parked outside a private residence in Henveiru district, and found 511 beer cans during a search of the vehicle.

The three suspects arrested in connection to the case were; two 30-year-old Maldivian males, and one 23-year-old Bangladeshi male.

The second operation took place on Tuesday, September 15. The police stopped and searched a van in the industrial area, and found 116 liquor bottles in the vehicle.

The police made one arrest in connection to the case; a 26-year-old Maldivian male.

The two cases are under further investigation by the DED.
