Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 17 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 2,277
According to HPA, the 17 new cases are;
Meanwhile, nine more COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24-hours, increasing total recoveries to 1,848 people.
The new developments mean that the Maldives now has 416 active cases.
There are 315 people in isolation facilities, and 219 people in quarantine facilities.
46,182 samples, including repeated samples, have been taken by health authorities to conduct coronavirus testing.
The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7 and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic four days later on March 11.
Cases had initially been restricted to resorts and safaris, and later quarantine facilities holding inbound travelers. Male’ City identified its first case on April 15, prompting a city-wide lockdown and a nationwide ban on nonessential travel.
The Maldives began relaxing its lockdown following a drop in daily infections at the end of May.
