COVID-19: 43 test positive for virus, along with 46 recovering

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has announced that 43 individuals have tested positive for the virus along with 46 recovering from the virus.

The total number of virus cases in the country currently stands at 1438, with recoveries at around 232.

NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said that 17 individuals were tested positive up until midnight after the presser last night and 26 were tested up until the presser tonight. Mabrouq also added that 41 cases were confirmed in total yesterday. They have been identified as nine Maldivians and 30 foreigners.  

NEOC medical Officer Dr. Ibrahim Afzal also speaking in the presser said that 30 Bangladeshi nationals, 10 Maldivians, Four Indians as well as one individual from Sri Lanka and Nepal each had recovered from the virus. 

Providing further details, Dr. Afzal said that 25 of the recovered individuals were aged between 18-40. 11 individuals were aged between 40 to 65. With the newly recovered 214 individuals have now made full recoveries from the virus since the community spread in Male' City was identified on April 15.

The Maldives currently has 1200 active cases. 10 individuals are being treated at Tree Top Hospital, said Mabrouq, who added that one individual was connected with a ventilator while the remaining nine were in stable condition.

A total of 1108 individuals are in isolation facilities while 1817 are in quarantine facilities.

The authorities also announced the death of a migrant national who later tested positive for the virus. The individual was found collapsed on a road of Male' City last night. A total of five deaths have been reported in the country so far in connection with the virus.

Authorities have also collected a total of 20,551 test samples. There are 531 test samples currently pending.
