Maldive Gas delivery worker in Hulhumale' tests positive for virus

A delivery worker of the Maldive Gas company working in Hulhumale' has tested positive for COVID-19.

Managing Director of Maldive Gas, Ali Ikraam stated to Sun that the worker had tested positive was a Bangladeshi national.

The individual had visited the Hulhumale' Hospital last night after falling ill. Samples were collected from the hospital and the results were obtained tonight, showing that the worker had tested positive for the virus.

Ikraam added that the company has been taking safety measures ever since the first case of the virus was identified in the country. Vehicles and gas cylinders are disinfected on a daily basis.

Despite the positive case, gas cylinder delivery works will not be disrupted, says Ikraam.

“I want to assure every citizen that the delivery work of gas will continue without disruptions. A delay of 30 minutes may occur, but the delivery service will be conducted conveniently.” Says Ikraam.

The total figure of infected cases for the country currently stands at 648. The majority of the cases have been identified in Male' City. The populous capital confirmed a community case of the virus on April 15. Since then, the whole city and the surrounding areas are in full lockdown and curfew. 

Most virus cases confirmed in the Maldives have come from foreign nationals, mostly migrant workers.  With cases number still increasing, although, at a lower rate than compared to a few days ago, the Maldives has so far recorded three deaths from the virus.

The deceased, two elderly Maldivians, and a middle-aged Bangladeshi national. 20 individuals have also made recoveries after being infected with the virus.
