The State Trading Organization (STO) has received a new shipment of cooking gas, allowing Maldive Gas to resume the sale of 10kg cylinders without restrictions.
A spokesperson for the company said the latest shipment has stabilised supply and that adequate stocks are now available. The company assured that gas distribution will continue without interruption.
Gas shortages had intensified over the past two months after multiple shipments were delayed, creating difficulties in both Malé and the atolls. Public complaints surged as customers reported waiting several hours for deliveries.
The supply challenges were linked to global oil and gas market disruptions, including delays caused by the escalating situation in the Middle East. To prevent stocks from running out, Maldive Gas implemented temporary measures, including filling only 5kg into 10kg cylinders and selling them at MVR 100. The company also paused supply to new customers to ensure fair distribution.
With the arrival of the new shipment, STO says delivery services have now returned to normal.
STO reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services remains one of its top priorities.
