Five escape from quarantine facility in South

Herethere Resort in Addu City.

 

Five people who were quarantined in the Herethere Resort have escaped from the island. The island is used to house contacts and positive virus cases in the south of Maldives.

 

 

 

Police stated that reports of their escape were received in the evening. The escapees are five Maldivians and authorities stated that one of the individuals has now been found.

 

The individuals are quarantined under the orders of Director General of Public Health who is granted the power to quarantine or isolate individuals under the Public Health Laws of the country if they suspected of carrying an infectious disease.

Court orders can also be issued to enforce these orders. Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has previously stated that criminal charges may be brought upon violators if these orders as the country battles to control the COVID-19 virus.
