CP Hameed: Police committed to promoting fundamentals of free press

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, on Sunday, said the Maldives Police Service was committed to promoting the fundamentals of free press and improving relations between the press and police.

He made the remark in a written statement on occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

Hameed, in his statement, thanked the press for work in providing verified information to keep the community well informed.

He said that press freedom was essential for future peace, justice and human rights for all.

“Celebrating the good relationship we have had and continue to have with the media, we extend our sincere respect and gratitude to all the brave and strong journalists for their exemplary service to this nation,” he said.

The theme for World Press Freedom Day 2020 is ‘Journalism without Fear or Favour’.
