Three people have been arrested in the island of A. A. Himandhoo for violating the ban on non-essential travel across the country ordered by the Director-General of Public.
The order was issued to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country and authorities have been taking strict action against those in violation of the order.
Those arrested in Himandhoo had tried to set out from the island on a dinghy around 23:45 last night before being arrested. The arrested are three local men aged 26, 28, and 32. The men had secretly returned to the island after being identified by the authorities as they set out from the island, stated Police.
The matter is being investigated by the Police.
