78 fined for violating lockdown orders in Male' City

A total of 78 people were fined today alone for violating lockdown orders on the capital Male’ City.

In a press conference underway earlier tonight, Police stated that the 78 were fined from Male’ City.

A fine of MVR 1000 is imposed on those violating the lockdown order placed in the capital in light of the confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannaan Yoosuf stated that Police will no longer be issuing warnings for such violations. He also stated that a special permit is to be issued for people to complete essential tasks. The permit will limit the persons movements to a specific location and time, allowing the Police to monitor the streets better and reduce the number of people outdoors.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Phairoosch said that 39 people were fined last night and that no one was arrested.

According to Police statistics, 279 delivery permits were issued today and a total of 3,469 permits have been issued since the capital was placed in a state of lockdown.
