six portable ventilators received, 38 more to be received in April

The government of Maldives has received six ventilators so far and is set to receive 38 more within this month, government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez has announced.

Mabrouq was speaking in a news conference tonight when he said that six portable ventilators have been received.

“We are currently sourcing 135 ICU ventilators and 14 portable ones. Out of these, six portable ventilators were received by the country today.” Said Mabrouq.

18 ventilators are to be received around 21-22 April and 20 ventilators will be received around April 28. said Mabrouq who added that the country had the bed capacity for 77 ICU patients in addition to the 97 ventilators.

“The majority of the ventilators we have will be used for this (Covid-19 treatment). Ventilators not used for other purposes and patients will be used for this work.” Said Mabrouq.

The Maldives has confirmed a total of 52 cases of Covid-19. 31 of these people are from the capital Male’ City. One tested positive from the island of H.A. Uligan as well. The remainder of the cases originated from safaris and resorts as well as quarantine facilities.
