The government of Maldives has advised citizens to stay indoors during the announced holidays.

The government offices in the Maldives will be closed from March 19-26 to efficiently work against the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

In a news conference today, government spokesperson Mabrook Azeez said “The government will be closed from this Thursday until the next Thursday. Everyone (Reporters) please advise, everyone that this is not a holiday to go swimming, to attend coffees. These are days to stay home.” said Mabrook.

The government’s response team member, Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, speaking at the news conference also advised cleaning public places and homes.

“This is advice that is imperative for everyone to follow. Because we can only stay safe from this virus if everyone follows the advice,” said Shaheed.

He added that everyone should adhere to the guidelines and advice of HPA if placed under home isolation.
