President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday night, announced he has instructed relevant authorities to reduce electricity tariff rates for the domestic category effective Sunday, June 1st.
The President made the announcement via a post on X in which he shared the new electricity tariff rates for the domestic category.

According to the President, has instructed relevant authorities to implement the reduced tariffs starting from Sunday, June 1st, and manage the changes in a sustainable manner.
Subsequently, the Utility Regulatory Authority will instruct utility companies, State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) and Fenaka Corporation, to implement the changes accordingly and oversee the process.
Electricity bill is presently calculated by units, which reflects electricity consumption.
The bill usually comes back high if usage exceeds 500 units. In this regard, MVR 4.25 was billed for each unit previously, which has now been reduced to MVR 3.80.
