The Parliament, on Tuesday, tasked the Government Oversight Committee with a review on Aishath Mohamed Didi, the new Gender Minister.

Aisha had served as the Maldivian Ambassador to India prior to being nominated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to replace Shidhatha Shareef, who tendered her resignation on Thursday.

She left her post in India and was presented with her letter of appointment two days later, on Sunday. Her appointment was forwarded to the Parliament for its approval the same day.

The task of reviewing the new Gender Minister was assigned to the Government Oversight Committee on Tuesday morning.

A final decision regarding approval for the new appointment will be made in a floor vote.

Aisha is not new to her new position, having served as Gender Minister from 2005 to 2008, during the last years of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

She also has years of prior experience working in education, and child and women rights.
