Ahmed Athif from H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of the Tourism Ministry.
Athif was a member of the H.Dh Atoll Council before his appointment to the Ministry. He has also served as the Vice President and President of the council.
He is also contesting for the MDP ticket in the party primary for the local council elections. It is understood that Athif will no longer be contesting in the party primary after his appointment to the Ministry.

Athif has previously contested unsuccessfully for the Parliament seat for South Kulhudhuffushi. Athif is a diploma holder from Avid College in Business Administration according to the President’s Office.
He is also currently studying for a Masters's certificate in Business Administration from the British School of Commerce.
Other than Athif, the Ministry has two more Deputy Ministers. They are Dr. Naushaad Mohamed and Assad Riza.
