Drugs found on Iranian boat boarded by police

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has stated that suspected drugs have been found yet again on an Iranian boat that was found drifting in the Maldivian territorial waters today.

The boat was discovered to be drifting around 4.8 nautical miles west of A.A Mandhoo today and was boarded by Police and Coastguard around 11:40 in the morning. Police and MNDF are now searching the boat after suspected drugs were found on the boat. Seven Iranian men were on board the vessel.

The latest bust comes just a month after another Iranian boat named “Al Shabana” was seized with 70kgs of drugs on board. Police arrested the six Iranian men on board the boat as well as five Maldivians and two migrant workers who were part of that network.

Police have previously stated that the Maldives was a transit point for these boats that are used to drugs to Asian countries.
